Who is really domesticating whom?

TheBotanyOfDesire

Today we are sharing with all of you a pretty interesting documentary based on his own book, in which Michael Pollan, a professor of journalism and a student of food, presents the history of four plants, each of which found a way to make itself essential to humans, thus ensuring widespread propagation.

Trailer:

– Apples, for sweetness:

– Tulips, for beauty:

– Cannabis, for consciousness experimentation:

– Potatoes, for sustenance:

In telling the stories of this four familiar species, Pollan illustrates how the plants have evolved to satisfy humankind’s most basic yearnings. And just as we’ve benefited from these plants, we have also done well by them. As you would see in the documentary, the real question is “Who is really domesticating whom?”
